“A Shortened Life”

“A Shortened Life”

In memory of Christian Crowell (5-years old)

As I would go to church on Sunday, Amazing Grace they sung
My body riddled with disease ever since I was young

The doctors tried their best for me with medicine I tried to cope
My mum and dad would speak with me to try and give me hope

As I prayed with my family, with tears I would cry
As I held their hands not knowing if I would die

They prayed and prayed as they trusted God, but all to no avail
Looking upon my little body which was looking very frail

I was determined though I wouldn’t quit, I had so much to give
For my mum, dad and siblings, I so much wanted to live

But my body was feeling weaker now, each and every day
All I could do was hope in God and to trust Him when I pray

As I looked into my parents eyes, despair is what I saw
They took my hand and held me close as the pain in me would gnaw

As I listen to a Christian song my hand I have to raise
Thinking of God whom I’ll meet soon who forever I will praise

Struggling hard to stay alive with each and every breath
I was fighting hard to stay away; from the thing that we call death

But just at that, as I closed my eyes the light was ever so bright
As I entered into the Heavenly realm O’ what a beautiful sight

As I got closer I saw an image, it was Jesus on His throne
I knew now that I could go and would never be alone

As I hugged my mum and dad, my body became so still
They knew that I had passed away; they knew this was God’s will

I was only five when I died that day; we knew that God knows best
My body is no longer in pain; I’ve gone to my Heavenly rest.

“Computerized Heaven” (Poem)

“Computerized Heaven”

As I travel along this lonely road not sure where I’ll end up next
Should I send my God an email or should I send a text

Does Jesus have a laptop or a desktop by his throne?
Does He have a tablet or android or maybe the apple Iphone

Does He have a flat screen T.V. a PVR to record my sin
Does He fax Heaven’s angels a GPS to know where I’ve been?

A DVD to play back my sin or maybe a VHS
Although it could be a Blue Ray He knows I’m in a mess

But God doesn’t hold a grudge nor holds anything against you
He forgives you when you call on Him; you know His promise is true

He doesn’t have a computer or an Iphone by His side
A tablet, android or GPS in Him you can confide

He said that he’d forgive your sin if you call on Him today
You do not need technology all you do is pray

You don’t need a kilobyte, megabyte or terabyte
You just need to read His word and keep it right within your sight

God does have lots of memory but He can’t remember your sin
He puts it in the deepest sea if you’ll only trust in Him

He’ll forget your wrongs and your shame He looks at it as dross
He’ll cleanse your heart and make it right if you’ll only trust the cross.

“Memories hidden in the back of my mind” (Poem)

“Memories hidden in the back of my mind”
(A poem about dementia & Alzheimer’s disease)

I’m sitting looking out the window thinking of days gone by
The times I looked up at the rainbow as it spanned across the sky

The family were young and full of life they played and worked till dawn
Enjoying the sun all day long until it was faded and gone

I would bake and sew and knit and cook re-using old clothes that were worn
I’ve loved my kids every day from the first day they were born

There was a flurry of activity around my home when the kids came home from school
Drinking milk with cookies and lots of snacks they would eat till they were full

They’re all grown up now playing with friends finding their way through life
One day the boys will meet a girl and take her as his wife

The girls they’re playing with their dolls along with their girly toys
Dressing themselves and brushing their hair with the hope to meet some boys

Life goes on and they’re married now they have a life of their own
It’s funny how they don’t look back to see that I’m all alone

The cookies the muffins the baking I did and the meals that we all shared
I’m getting older time’s slipping away I thought they would have cared

All these things are thoughts I have of the memories I could find
They were lurking in the back of my head before I lost my mind

I’m in a home now that’s for seniors you know, when you can’t remember when
My memory is fading really fast as I write this with my pen

My kids they thought it best for me to send me to this place
So they could live their life in peace not having to see my face

You see, no one knows these thoughts that I have they think that I’ve gone insane
They just don’t see my inner hurts they just don’t see my pain

As I’m staring at the walls for now people going to and fro’
No one comes to see me anymore it’s nearly time for me to go

Oh! Yes, the muffins the baking the meals we all shared those memories I make them last
The times we cuddled and loved each other are just things of the past

The children finally get the call to let them know I’ve gone
To my final home up in the sky at last I’m not alone.

“Standing on the corner”

“Standing on the corner”

I’m standing on the corner with a sign between my hands
Looking for someone to help me hoping they’ll understand

Just a dollar here or there this is my appeal
Just a little for my stomach enough to buy a meal

I’ve tried to get a job you know but when they see I’m damp
As I’m out in the rain all day they know that I’m a tramp

Roll down your window and share with me the blessings I can’t have
Help me get by one more day and this way I won’t starve

Thank you for giving from your heart I appreciate all you give
It helps to know that someone cares it helps me try to live.

“Traveling on the Spiritual Highway” (Song)

“Traveling on the Spiritual Highway”

As I wander on this road of faith, I stumble and I fall
I travel fast ahead of you and often hit a wall
Please help me Lord to wait on you and to let you lead the way
I’ll reach my destination soon if I trust you Lord and pray

Chorus
Jesus come and pour your love upon my heart today
Flood my soul with all you have this dear Lord is what I pray
Fill me with your Spirit Lord and keep me close to thee
Lay your hand upon my life direct me Lord where I should be

I’m on a Spiritual highway Lord and I’m looking for a sign
To guide me on the road of life to do your will not mine
Sometimes, I take an exit Lord which leads me far away
I get involved in things I shouldn’t lost and led astray

Chorus
Jesus come and pour your love upon my heart today
Flood my soul with all you have this dear Lord is what I pray
Fill me with your Spirit Lord and keep me close to thee
Lay your hand upon my life direct me Lord where I should be

I’ve taken many roads in life got lost along the way
Especially when I’m in a rush and I forget to pray
I think it’s time that I slowed down and give you Lord my soul
I’ll let you have my life today take complete control

Chorus
Jesus come and pour your love upon my heart today
Flood my soul with all you have this dear Lord is what I pray
Fill me with your Spirit Lord and keep me close to thee
Lay your hand upon my life direct me Lord where I should be
